Dedicated service centers for Datensicherung.nrw
"A few for many!" is the approach for the state-wide data backup service. True to this motto, the service is being set up based on the consortially procured software solution. In addition to equipping all universities involved in the project with the appropriate licenses for software use, the setup also includes the construction of dedicated data backup centers.
Distinguished by many years of experience in the context of data backup, colleagues provide the data backup service to the universities that use the service. Coupled with powerful and modern hardware architecture and software, the service centers meet the multi-layered requirements of NRW's universities in the context of data backup in the age of digitalization.
Service and support round out the service spectrum, which is supported by a team of experts editing consulting issues across all locations. Universities can thereby use data protection as a service and rely on the expertise and infrastructure of the data centers that offer it.
Development of the service at the service centers
By the end of 2023, the backup service is to be offered in active operation at all service-providing universities. This means that all technical and additional requirements of the universities resulting from the cooperative approach have been met. Currently, two service providers are in active operation, which means that the first universities have been successfully migrated and an important milestone has been reached.
Onboardingprozess
The onboarding of a service user is considered completed when the respective university has successfully carried out its first initial full backup. From this point on, the regular operating schedule can begin on the part of the service provider. The service provider center only provides the service; the extent to which it is used and the volume of data that is backed up is at the discretion of the university using the service, and it is therefore responsible for further progress.
